Hosting FAQs
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOMAIN AND HOSTING?
A domain is an address that points to the files that make up your website, while hosting is the storage of those files on servers.
Users can visit your website by typing in or clicking on your domain, and what they see on their screen is your domain accessing the files that are "hosted" on servers.
HOW DO YOU HOST MY SITE?
When managing DNS for our customers, we utilize Cloudflare within our corporate account. This gives some added WAF and DDOS protections, etc., but the minimum requirements for our platform will also work with the Free plan which is still very robust and more secure than most DNS providers.
The primary reason we utilize and require Cloudflare is for their fast/redundant DNS services, CDN and SSL certificate management. The DoctorLogic platform is a multi-tenant application and certificate management abstracted to the Cloudflare network reduces complexity for all of our customers.
CAN I HOST MY DOCTORLOGIC SITE MYSELF OR HAVE MY IT COMPANY HOST IT?
We prefer to host any site we build. This give us the ultimate flexibility when we release new versions or migrate servers to other regions, etc.
Having the domain point to Cloudflare DNS is a requirement for our platform and not an option. They utilize CNAME Flattening which allows us to create root CNAME records that point to our Azure web service instead of an IP. This gives us the ultimate flexibility in redundancy as the IP can change on occasion. If you would like to be able to control your DNS updates, we can grant you access to your domain in Cloudflare which in turn will allow you to make DNS edits as needed while enjoying the additional benefits that the Cloudflare service provides in terms of security, performance, etc. You could always host the site yourself through Cloudflare as well. Note that if you choose to host the site yourself, you will not get the added benefits of our underlying platform updates and any outages or technical issues will need to be addressed by your own IT manager.
CAN I ACCESS AND CHANGE MY DNS RECORDS AFTER I'M LIVE?
Our platform relies on the use of CloudFlare's services which offer great benefits to speed, performance and security. This means we host your DNS zone file within our CloudFlare account. You can absolutely change your DNS records after you are live, simply contact your DoctorLogic Customer Success rep or the DoctorLogic support team with the change you want made, and we will do it for you! If you'd prefer, we can always grant you access to your domain through Cloudflare so you can make any necessary additions or changes.
